A book you can finish in a day

“Why are the men here anyway? I guess the ladies needed escorts but the men must know the truth. This is all a colossal headhunt for the prince. His Royal Highness may think he’s selecting a bride but it’s the other way around. He is the rabbit. And we are the wolves.”

Sinful Cinderella by Anita Valle

Star rating: ★★★★ ☆ 4/5 stars

Summary: This is the Cinderella tale you haven’t experienced, this is a cold, calculating girl who uses people to her advantage. Everything she does is for her own gain. Her only goal is to become Queen and punish her stepfamily for their cruelty.

Reasons for picking this book: I was going to read The Great Gatsby for this but then I was wondering if the style would make me take longer to read it, so I went with this book I found in the free section of kindle.

Review: Cinderella is my favorite, I just love her so I was excited to see this book. This is what I wanted out of Throne of Glass (but didn’t get)– Cinderella with a darker edge.

I loved this book, Cinderella is pretty ruthless but sympathetic as well. I didn’t find her too terrible that I just couldn’t connect with her. The story was great, lots a fun changes to the original, like the fairy godmother using a smoking pipe as a wand. I think my only complaint would be that it was so short. I wanted more of the story and I think there is enough material it could have been much longer.

Still, I liked it. I liked how vain Cinderella is, that she only acted as a servant in her stepmothers house because it benefitted her. She got magic out of being “good” and she used it like magical plastic surgery. I would definitely love to read more about Cinderella in this world.

This was a fun change from the usual fairy tale retellings, I wouldn’t mind reading more dark princesses.

Recommendation: This book is free on kindle right now, I think it’s worth checking out. It’s short and fun and you’re supporting an indie author by reading it.
