Yureka Books Unboxing

December’s Yureka Books box arrived yesterday and it was excellent! It included a surprise I hadn’t expected which made this box being my last one extra special. I decided to cancel my subscription even though I love Yureka because I have a bit of a surplus of books I have waiting for me to read but I haven’t yet. I need to read through these so I’ve put myself on a book buying ban and decided that I will work on reading these ones that I have. That’s going to be my new challenge for 2017, but library and arc books don’t count.

Speaking of which! I finally got a library card for my local library! I’ve only lived here for four years… I sort of forgot libraries were a thing, whoops. But I got a card and I’m trying to make an effort to borrow books and visit the library. Every week they have story time for toddlers at my local branch so I’m trying to take my daughter, we went this last week and it was pretty neat, the lady running it is really good with kids. Only downside is it’s pretty early, why does everything for babies have to be early morning? Like come on!

Alright enough digression, onto the box!

This month they changed up the packaging, I kind of prefer the old packaging myself. But the envelope does help because sometimes I would open it and the paper goods would just fall out. Plus the pretty handwriting of my name is very pretty so I guess I’m torn on that. Also I normally get one bookplate for every book but this month I only got two total.

First book I got is The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater. It’s the second book in the Raven Cycle series, I’ve already received the first book from Yureka in a previous box so it was pretty cool to get the next one. This is a series two people have been telling me I need to read so I’ll be able to get to that soon.

Next was, The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd. I’ve read The Cage by this same author (which was a book in a different Yureka box) and I liked it, I’ve been interested in this book so I’m pretty excited by it.

The third book was one I’d never heard of before. Pirate Cinema by Cory Doctorow, it’s a dystopian futuristic novel about how downloading movies is illegal? I’m sort of confused on the premise but it looks interesting and if I don’t like it my friend Scarlett can never turn down what she refers to as a PAD (post-apocalyptic dystopian).

And then I got a surprise! Because of the holidays, Yureka sent an extra book as a gift! I was totally not expecting that and was super excited by that! I got a hardcover copy of The Wrath and The Dawn by Renée Ahdieh which is a retelling of 1001 Arabian Nights. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews for this book so I’m eager to read it, it’s been on my TBR for most of this year.

And that was my last box! I hope I will eventually feel like I can sign up for Yureka again because I really like this company, I’ve loved getting my boxes from them and so far everything I’ve read has been great. We will see how well I do this next year on reading through what I have.

  1. Hi,
I’ve just come across your blog while googling Yureka Book Subscription and was wondering if you have gone back to Yureka or not? I’ve recently become interested in book subscription boxes and so far Yureka seems like it would be the one I would get the most enjoyment from. However, I see little feedback from users online and their social media presence is pretty much nil so I’m wondering if I should take the gamble or not. Have you subscribed to any other book boxes you could recommend?

    1. Hey!

No, I haven’t gone back to them or tried any new ones, much as I would like to. It’s been a money issue for me to be able to afford subscription boxes. I have noticed they’ve gone quiet on social media but I still get emails every month from them about the next month’s books so I’m not sure what’s going on there, they still have an ig but their fb is gone. I was really happy with their service for the three months I got it. I’m afraid I haven’t tried any other boxes to point you towards. Sorry I’m not much of help!
