Star Wars: Poe Dameron, Vol. 1: Black Squadron by Charles Soule
Star rating: ★★★★ ☆ 4/5 stars
Format: library graphic novel
Summary: Set before The Force Awakens, Poe is given a mission from General Organa to find Lor San Takka who is rumored to have information about Luke Skywalker’s location.
Review: This series gives us a better look at the other members of the Resistance. In the movie we really only become familiar with Poe. I like getting to see more of these pilots personalities. It seems we will continue to see more of Poe’s black squadron in future volumes which I am excited about.
The art is amazing. Phil Noto is one of my favorite comic book artists. His stuff is just beautiful and full of life. And he doesn’t overly sexualize the women he draws either.
It’s pretty fun, I hadn’t read any comics set in this Star Wars era so it’s interesting to take a look into it. I was really confused by the whole egg savior story. Where did that other giant thing come from? What the heck was that all about anyways? It was just bizarre.
The story is kind of boring, like it has everything that should hold my attention but I kept having a hard time keeping interested. I don’t know what’s missing for me but the overall story arc isn’t doing it. I prefer the moments where they are back on base talking because it gave more character depth. We know he finds Lor San Takka so this whole quest is meh.
Recommendation: I’d read this for character development not plot.
