Review: I seriously loved this graphic novel. It was so charming and had me hooked from beginning to end. I’m only sad that there isn’t a sequel.
I loved the characters, Nimona in particular. I want to know that she gets a happy ending, that she’s happy and safe. Also curious to know if she’s really a changing or if her parents just couldn’t deal with her powers and this was their way of feeling no guilt for abandoning her.
I thought that the combination of a medieval society with modern day tech would be too weird for me but it actually didn’t bother me at all. It was actually pretty cool and I liked it a lot. I mean, Knights face timing each other? I’m down.
I liked the relationship between Goldenlion and Blackheart, it was super interesting and dynamic. I was glad to see them happy together in the end. I liked that even when they were at odds with each that neither truly wanted the other hurt. Also I like that when Goldenlion realizes he never apologized to Blackheart about his arm that he feels like shit over it.
I liked that when the peasants got fed up and took up arms against the institution knights when they began to see the corruption. I thought that it was really nice that they were an active part and didn’t just sit back.
All the designs were cool, definitely different than what I’m used to when it comes to comic art. But I liked that. The words looked like they were likely handwritten rather than a font, which went with the feeling of the art. I think if the words were more crisp it just wouldn’t look as good.
Recommendation: It looks long but it reads very fast. I liked it a lot, if you enjoy fantasy then this is a great choice.
AAHHH Nimona is one of my all-time favourites! I love everything about it! I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🙂
